The objective of this research is to know whether there is any positive effect of the Structural Approach application toward writing achievement of the seventh year students at SMP Negeri 3 Ampelgading Pemalang in academic year 2009/2010.
Based on the theoretical background and the logical framework, the hypothesis is proposed as follows: There is a positive effect of the Structural Approach application toward writing achievement of the seventh year students.
The population of the research is the seventh year students at SMP Negeri 3 Ampelgading Pemalang with total number 235 students. To collect the data, the writer took 60 students from the population as the sample by using random sampling technique. The writer used two-group designs: one group as an experimental group whereas the other group as a control group. Each group consists of 30 students. The experiment group was taught by using Structural Approach, while the control group was taught without using Structural Approach. Then both of them were given the same writing test.
The writer used a multiple-choice test as the instrument of the research. The multiple-choice test consists of 30 items, which has five options. The students did the test in 60 minutes. To know the validity and reliability of the instrument, the writer tried out the instrument by giving the test to 30 students who have the same competence with the sample of this research.
The data of this research is gained from writing test. It was given to the sample of this research. To analyze the data, the writer used t-test to know the difference between the two groups. Based on the result of the data analysis, t-ratio is 2.087 with the degree of freedom (df) 58 and the level of significance (?) 5 %, and the t-table is 1.645. It means that the t-ratio is higher than the t-table (2.087 ? 1.645). It can be concluded that the hypothesis of the research is accepted.
The conclusion of this research is there is a positive effect of the Structural Approach application toward writing achievement of the seventh year students at SMP Negeri 3 Ampelgading Pemalang in academic year 2009/2010.
