Reading is a complex skill. Reading lesson connects with some element such as; pronunciation, vocabulary, spelling, and grammatical structure. The problems which are faced by the Junior High School students especially the first year students, they often pronouns or read English words and sentences incorrectly. To solve this problem teacher needs effective method to develop teaching and learning activity on the English lesson.
The objective of this study is to find out whether there is significant different achievement of reading comprehension between the students who are taught by using Presentation Practice Production (PPP) method and those who are taught by using Grammar Translation Method.
Based on the review of related theory, the hypothesis of this research is proposed as follows: The students who are taught by using Presentation Practice Production (PPP) Method will get reading achievement better than those who are taught by using Grammar Translation Method.
The population of this research is the first year students of "MTs Jatibogor" in the second semester in academic year 2009-2010. The number of the population is 84 students.
The sample of this research consists of 40 students. They are divided into two groups. The first group consists of the students who are taught by using Presentation Practice Production (PPP) Method grouping as experimental group and the second group consist of the students who are taught by using Grammar Translation Method grouping as the control one.
The data of this research is tested by using t-test and the result shows that t-test is 1,647, with 1% significance level and the degree of freedom (df) 38, t-table is 1,282. It means the result of t-test is higher than t-table. It shows that the Research Hypothesis (Hi) is accepted.
This could be concluded that the students who are taught by using Presentation Practice Production (PPP) Method will get English reading comprehension achievement better than those who are taught by using Grammar Translation Method.
