A Study on The Students' Ability in Using Regular and Irregular Verbs in Narrative Text (An Descriptive Study of Second Grade Students of SMA Bhakti Praja Adiwerna Tegal in Academic Year 2009/2010)

English has important role. According to curriculum English learning in senior high school has 4 skills language; reading, writing, speaking and listening. The skills languages are important to carry the students' ability to communication.
The topic of this research is the students' ability in using regular and irregular verbs in narrative text made by the second grade students of SMA Bhakti Praja Adiwerna in Academic Year 2009/2010. The objective of this research is How far is the students' ability in using regular and irregular verbs in narrative text and what are some common errors encountered to the students' in using regular and irregular verbs in narrative text. The error analysis is an activity to identification, analyze and classification error made by students.
The population of the research is the second grade students of SMA Bhakti Praja Adiwerna Tegal in Academic Year 2009/2010. The number of the population is 110 students. The writer uses random sampling technique to choose the sample of the study The number of sample is 30 students. The instrument of the research is a tool to obtain data; this tool should be selected in accordance with the desired data type. Instruments as a means of collecting data obtained by using the test instrument. To determine the writing achievement the writer gives narrative test and then given a test in the form of changing the first forms the verb as the second forms of the verb about 30 items.
From the analysis of students, the writer finds two (2) kinds of errors. They are error made by students in using regular verbs and error made by students in using irregular verbs. After getting the result of analysis, The percentage of error made by students in using regular verbs is 52% and error made by students in using irregular verb is 25,5%.
