Dalam dua akhir kompetensi, kemampuan menulis siswa kelas 8 B di SMP AL-USMANIYYAH Lebaksiu sangat buruk. Nilainya selalu dibawah KKM. Oleh sebab itu penulis memutuskan untuk mengadakan PTK (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) dengan rumusan masalah sebagai berikut 'Dapatkah Gambar Berseri meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount?'
Penulis mengadakan penelitian dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks recount, dengan harapan penelitian tersebut dapat memberikan keuntungan bagi para siswa, guru dan sekolah.
Subyek penelitiannya adalah siswa SMP AL-USMANIYYAH kelas 8 B, dengan jumlah 30 siswa yang terdiri dari 14 siswa perempuan dan 16 siswa laki-laki. Penelitian mengacu pada prosedur penelitian yaitu dilakukan dalam tiga siklus, setiap siklus terdiri dari dua pertemuan dan masing-masing siklus terdiri dari 4 tahap, sebagai berikut: planning, acting, observing dan reflecting. Pengumpulan data penelitian diambil dengan memberikan test menulis teks recount and hasil observasi. Sebagai acuan penilian, digunakan working indicator, yaitu Jika siswa mendapatkan nilai 60 lebih dari 70 % siswa dalam kelas 8B.
Hasil pengamatan selama penelitian, menunjukan bahwa terdapat peningkatan dalam prestasi menulis siswa. Yaitu terdapat 15 siswa (50%) yang mendapatkan nilai > 6,0 di siklus pertama, 21 siswa (70%) di siklus yang ke-2 dan 23 siswa (77%) di siklus yang ke-3.
Setelah mengadakan penelitian hingga 3 siklus, penulis dapat menarik kesimpulan bahwa gambar berseri dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks recount. Jadi saya menganjurkan kepada para guru bahasa inggris untuk menggunakan gambar berseri sebagai alternative teknik pengajaran dalam meningkatkan kemampuam siswa dalam menulis teks recount.

The seventh grade students' writing achievement at SMP AL-USMANIYYAH Lebaksiu is really bad. It is always under the Minimum Passing Criteria. Therefore the writer takes a classroom Action Research with the problem formulation 'Can Picture Series Improve the Students' Writing Ability in Recounting Text Through Picture Series ?'
The writer conducts the research in her purpose to improve the student writing ability in recount text, the writer wishes that this research will give advantages for students, teachers, and institutions.
The subjects of the research are 31 students of class 8B of SMP AL-USMANIYYAH Lebaksiu in academic year 2009/2010 involving 14 girls and 16 boys. The research refers the research procedure that is held in three cycles consisting of two meeting of each cycle and follows the four stages, i.e.: Planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The collecting of data of the research is taken from a test (writing assessment) and the result of the observation. The working indicator is considered to be successful, if students who get score < 60 and it must be minimally 70 %. It is based on The Minimum Passing Criteria.
The result of the observation during the research shows that there is improvement of student writing achievement. There are 15 students (50 %) who get score > 6,0 in cycle I, 21 students (70%) in cycle II and 23 students (77%) in cycle III.
The conclusion after holding the research up to cycle III is that picture series can improve the student writing ability in recount text. So the writer suggests to use picture series as an alternative technique in improving the students writing ability in recount text through picture series.
