This thesis is a research about analysis on the students reading mastery of biography text and legend text at SMPN 2 Banjarharjo Brebes grade seventh in Academic year 2009/2010.
The main object of this research is to know students on reading mastery of biography text and legend text.
The population of the research is all the students in the seventh grade students at SMPN 2 Banjarharjo Brebes in Academic Year 2009/2010. The total of them is 305 students. From this population the researcher uses random sampling technique to take the sample of the research. The researcher takes 40 students as the sample of the research.
The research instrument used is multiple choice test which consists of 20 items consisting of four options a, b, c and d.
After the data has been collected and analyzed, it reveals that the students on reading mastery of biography text is 32 %, it means that the students on reading mastery of biography text is "Low". The students on reading mastery of legend text is 33,625 %, it means that the students on reading mastery of legend text is "Low". Generally, students on reading mastery of biography text and legend text is 65,625 % with category "High". So, from the data the researcher can conclude that the students at SMPN 2 Banjarharjo Brebes grade seventh have understood the biography text and legend text.
The researcher wants to give suggestions to English teacher in order to give more explanation for the students about kinds of text and select the methods in teaching and learning process. For the students, have to do more reading to improve the achievement in understanding kinds of text.
