Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah tehnik SQ3R memberikan efek positif terhadap kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas dua selama semester II tahun pelajaran 2009/2010. Berdasarkan landasan teori dan kerangka berfikir, dirumuskan hipotesis sebagai berikut : Tehnik SQ3R memberikan efek positif didalam kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa.
Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas dua SMP N 1 Bodeh Pemalang dengan populasi sebanyak 200 siswa. Penulis menggunakan tehnik pemilihan secara acak untuk memilih sampel penelitian, jumlah sampel adalah 60 siswa, siswa terdiri dari dua kelompok yakni kelompok eksperimen dengan kelompk pengendali, tiap kelompok terdiri dari 30 siswa. Kelompok eksperimen adalah siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan tehnik SQ3R dan kelompok pengendali adalah siswa yang diajar tanpa menggunakan tehnik SQ3R. Penulis menggunakan tes sebagai instrumen penelitian. Tes tersebut membutuhkan waktu 45 menit, jenis tes yang diberikan adalah pilihan ganda dengan 4 pilihan A, B, C dan D untuk mengetahui validitas dan reliabilitas.
Data penelitian ini diperoleh dari hasil tes membaca yang dikerjakan oleh sampel dengan uji-t. Dari analisa menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung adalah 3,5769 sedang t-tabel adalah 2,000 pada taraf signifikansi 5% jadi t-hitung lebih tinggi dari pada t-tabel (3,5769 > 2,000). Jadi dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa tehnik SQ3R memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas dua SMP N 1 Bodeh Pemalang Tahun Pelajaran 2009/2010.

The objective of this thesis is to find whether SQ3R Technique gives positive effect toward reading comprehension ability for second year students during the second semester in the academic year 2009/2010. Based on the review of related theory and logical framework, the research hypothesis is proposed as follows; SQ3R technique gives the positive effect on students reading comprehension ability.
The population of this research is the second year students of SMP N 1 Bodeh Pemalang. The total number of the students is 200, the writer uses random sampling technique to choose the samples of the study. The number of the students is 60 students. The sample consists of two groups and each group contains 30 students. The experiment group is the students who are taught with SQ3R technique as the first group and the control group is the students who are taught without SQ3R technique as the second group. The writer uses a test as the instrument of the research; the test takes 45 minutes to do. The type of test is multiple choices with four options A, B, C and D to know the validity and the reliability of the instrument.
The data of the research are gained from the reading test done by sample of the research. Data analysis of this research is tasted by using t-test. Based on the result of data analysis t-ratio is 3,5769 whereas t-table with the degree of freedom is (58) on the level of significance of 5% t-table is 2,000. It shows that t-ratio is higher than t-table (3,5769 > 2,000). Thus the conclusion of the research is SQ3R technique gives positive effect toward reading comprehension ability for second year students of SMP N 1 Bodeh Pemalang in the academic year 2009/2010.
