The objective of this thesis is to find out the effect of parent involvement on students achievement in learning English of the fifth year students at elementary schools of Adiwerna sub district in the academic year 2009/2010.
The sampling technique used in this research is stratified random sampling. The population is the fifth grade students of Adiwerna sub district. They are divided into 2 groups. The first group consists of 30 students who have high parent involvement and the second group consists of 30 students who have low parent involvement.
The hypothesis of this research is there is significant difference of English achievement between the students who have high parent involvement and the students who have low parent involvement of the fifth year students at elementary schools of Adiwerna sub district in the academic year 2009/2010.
In this study, a test is used to measure the English learning achievement of both groups. Before it is given, the writer conducts a try out test to measure its validity and reliability.
From the result of statistical analysis, it shows that the value of t-ratio is 9,887 whereas the value of t-table with df is 58 on the level of significance 0,05 / 5% it shows 1,672. the result of t-ratio is higher than t-table (9,887 > 1,672). It can be concluded that there is significant difference on student achievement in learning English between the students who have high parent involvement and the students who have low parent involvement. So, the students who have high parent involvement have better achievement in English learning than the students who have low parent involvement. The writer suggests that to improve the students' achievement in learning English, the parents should improve their involvement.
