Reading is the most important fundamental skill that a person can acquire, by reading we will get knowledge and information. Unfortunately, many students still have the problems in reading comprehension. It also happens at 8thgrade sudents of SMP N 13 Tegal, the writer found out one of the reason why still have the problems in reading comprehension, it proved some of the students are not able to give response after reading texts. Therefore, should be given appropriate strategy to solve the problem, one of many the strategies is FQR strategy. FQR strategy is a strategy that can be used in improving students reading comprehension. Therefore, the writer conducted this research to them.
This research is a kind of experimental research, and used two group design, experimental group and control group. The writer takes an experimental research which is held on the 8thgrade of SMP N 13 Tegal in the second semester of academic year 2017/2018. The writer takes 243 as population it is divided into 8 classes. The writer takes samples by cluster random sampling. The sample consist of 60 students, which 30 students of VIIIA as experimental group who are taught by using FQR strategy and 30 students of VIIIC as control group who are not taught by using FQR strategy.
In collecting data, the instrument which is multiple choice test form of reading test that consists of 40 questions, to know the result of t-test in data of this research, it is tested by using independent sample test. It shows that the students mean score in control group is 6.13 while the mean score in experimental group is 6.63 it had increased to be 0, 50. Then, the total of T-test is 2,576. It consulted into score at t-table 5% level of significances. While, the total of T-tableis 1,672. It’s mean, can be assumed that the T-test is higher than T-table (2,576>1,672). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is significant difference between students who are taught by using FQR strategy and students who are not taugh by using FQR strategy. The writer concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) is refused and Hypothesis (H) is accepted, Its mean that FQR Strategy gave positive effect on students reading achievement and could be used inprove reading comprehension.
Based on the finding of the research, the writer suggests that the English teacher should be able to apply FQR strategy because this it is an appropriate strategy to comprehend a text and also as one of many alternative that can be used in teaching learning reading process.
